First, the sad news: just a few weeks ago I received the news that my family's oldest dog, Jake, passed away. He had been with them over 10 years and is very much missed.
Now, the happy news: there are two new additions to the family, Skye and Roscoe. Mom came across some photos of two sweet old shelties up for adoption at a local shelter. My sister Janna decided to pay them a visit, so naturally mom couldn't let her go alone. Just a few days later they were adopted and brought home. The shelter was thrilled; old dogs rarely go quickly in shelters (they're about 10 and 12) and they had been there for 2 months. They've earned the title "mini dogs" since we've been used to collie-size dogs for years.
Meet Skye. She came with the name Tri (she's a tricolor sheltie), which we all thought was silly.
Meet Roscoe (or Rozzie). He's a very fat sheltie. Weights typically range from 15 - 30 pounds, and this one is 45. The diet has been started.
Marggie, my family's collie, gets along with them very well.
Carrying a 45 pound dog around can be excellent weight training.
Sweet Marggie.
